Charlotte D’Hulst, PhD
Co-Founder & CEO
Dr. Charlotte D’Hulst is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Yesse
Technologies. Charlotte’s fascination for science lies in translating the insights one gains from studying the molecular biology of a system to real-world applications and is therefore thrilled to see her academic work materialize in Yesse Technologies. She pioneered the ORion21™ platform – the core of the company- while working on the molecular biology of the enigmatic sense of smell with Co-Founder Prof. Paul Feinstein at Hunter College of The City University of New York.
As CEO of Yesse Technologies, Charlotte has immersed herself in the NYC biotech community and participated in various entrepreneurship program to transform a scientific idea into a venture-backed company. Charlotte is a 2018 Springboard Enterprises alumna, was trained in bioengineering at the KULeuven (Belgium) and received her PhD in biomedical Sciences from the University of Antwerp (Belgium).
Paul Feinstein, PhD
Prof. Paul Feinstein is the Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of Yesse Technologies. For the last 30 years, Prof. Feinstein has been successful in identifying the signaling components and deciphering odorant receptor development of the mammalian olfactory system. Prof. Feinstein has become a world expert in the generation of transgenic animals to study biological processes in vivo. As a postdoctoral research fellow, he made over a 100 gene-targeted animals and parsed out the mechanism of odorant receptor function in olfactory sensory neurons. These breakthrough concepts that still predominate the field, were published in two back-to-back, 2004 papers in the premier scientific journal, Cell.
As a principal investigator at Hunter College, CUNY for nearly a decade, he continues to characterize the role of odorant receptors in these processes as well as the transcriptional regulation of singular gene choice. He is currently one of a few scientists in the world that directly manipulate odorant receptor gene expression in order to understand odorant coding. Prof. Feinstein’s outstanding record of high-quality publications in olfaction spans 4 decades.
Elke Giets, PhD
Managing Director, Europe
Bitten by technology and passionate about the biology of things, Dr. Giets thrives on the translation point of science and technology into applications. Bioengineer by formation, Elke completed a PhD in immunology at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).
After academia, Elke joined the clinical division of a leading 3D-printing company (Belgium) and gained experience in various business aspects of Life Science industry during a management consultancy role (Belgium & Switzerland). Prior to joining Yesse Technologies as the Managing Director for Europe, Elke was part of the venturing team at the world-leading semiconductor research center, imec (Belgium), current partner of Yesse Technologies.
